Activity Description

While the impact of influenza varies, it places a substantial burden on the health of people in the United States each year. The Centers for Disease Control and Prevention (CDC) estimates that influenza has caused between 9.2 million and 35.6 million illnesses, between 140,000 and 710,000 hospitalizations, as well as between 12,000 and 56,000 deaths annually since 2010. There is a need for better treatments for patients with influenza infection, preventative measures, and better mitigation of the impacts associated with a pandemic. Antivirals with different targets and different mechanisms of action provide multiple therapeutic options, holding promise for improving treatment effectiveness. This continuing education activity, led by expert clinicians, will inform nurse practitioners and physician assistants regarding the latest updates in influenza care.
